Fuel Ethanol

Commonwealth produces high-quality fuel ethanol that helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and supports cleaner-burning transportation fuels. Ethanol blended into gasoline improves octane while lowering carbon intensity, contributing to energy independence and domestic fuel production.

Wet & Dry Distillers’ Grains

As part of the ethanol production process, Commonwealth produces wet and dried distillers’ grains, a nutrient-rich livestock feed widely used by cattle, dairy, and poultry producers. These co-products provide a valuable source of protein, energy, and essential nutrients for animal diets while supporting regional livestock operations. Distillers’ grains help maximize the value of every bushel of corn by returning important nutrients back into the agricultural supply chain.

During fermentation, carbon dioxide is naturally produced as part of the ethanol process. This CO₂ can be captured and used in applications such as dry ice production.

CO₂ from ethanol production is captured and supplied by Airgas, including use in Penguin Brand Dry Ice for food, beverage, and cold-chain applications

Beverage Ethanol

Ethanol produced from corn serves as the base alcohol used in many beverage applications. After further refinement and purification by beverage alcohol processors, ethanol becomes a key ingredient in products such as spirits, ready-to-drink beverages, and other beverage formulations.

Commonwealth Agri-Energy supplies ethanol that supports the beverage alcohol industry by providing a consistent and reliable upstream ethanol source. Our production process and quality standards ensure a dependable feedstock for beverage-grade refining and finishing.

Ethanol for Industrial Manufacturing

While beverage markets are more recognizable, ethanol produced at Commonwealth is used across a wide range of industrial applications. Ethanol is an important industrial solvent and ingredient used in manufacturing, chemical processing, and product formulation.

Industrial ethanol applications include:

• Food processing and ingredient manufacturing, including products like vinegar, hot sauce, salad dressings, marinades, flavor and essential oil concentrates like vanilla or herbal extracts, meat preservatives, and cooking wines.
• Industrial solvents and cleaning products like hand sanitizer, laundry detergent, cleaning wipes, mouthwash, perfumes, Lysol, aerosol room deodorizers
• Chemical production and intermediates
• Pharmaceutical and healthcare products
• Personal care and cosmetic formulations

Because ethanol is a versatile and renewable product derived from corn, it plays an important role in both traditional manufacturing and emerging bio-based industries.
