From Grain to Value
At Commonwealth Agri-Energy, every bushel of corn represents more than a single product. Through modern ethanol production and efficient processing, we transform locally grown grain into multiple valuable products that support agriculture, energy markets, and industrial supply chains.
The ethanol production process ensures that nearly every component of the corn kernel is utilized. From renewable fuel to livestock feed and industrial products, this integrated system demonstrates how modern ethanol plants create multiple streams of value from a single agricultural crop.
For farmers, communities, and energy markets, this means greater efficiency, stronger agricultural demand, and expanded opportunities for renewable fuels.
Grain Becomes Renewable Fuel
Corn delivered to Hopkinsville Elevator Co. is processed at Commonwealth Agri-Energy into fuel ethanol, a renewable transportation fuel blended into gasoline across the United States. Ethanol improves fuel octane and helps reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional petroleum fuels.
By producing ethanol domestically, plants like Commonwealth contribute to energy security, rural economic growth, and lower-carbon fuel solutions.
Distillers Grains Support Livestock
After ethanol is produced, the remaining nutrients from the corn are converted into distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS).
This high-protein livestock feed is widely used by poultry, cattle, dairy, and other livestock producers and provides an efficient way to return valuable nutrients back into the agricultural system.
Distillers’ grains produced at Commonwealth Agri-Energy are sold locally and regionally as a high-quality livestock feed. These feed products play an important role in supporting Kentucky’s poultry industry, one of the state’s largest agricultural exports.
During fermentation, carbon dioxide is naturally produced as part of the ethanol process. This CO₂ can be captured and used in applications such as dry ice production.
CO₂ from ethanol production is captured and supplied by Airgas, including use in Penguin Brand Dry Ice for food, beverage, and cold-chain applications
CO₂ Creates Industrial Products
Commonwealth Agri-Energy produces high-quality ethanol used in the production of beverages, food, personal/household hygiene products, and industrial products.
Our ethanol production process begins with locally sourced corn and is supported by modern processing technology, consistent quality control, and reliable supply chain infrastructure. This allows Commonwealth to provide a dependable ethanol supply for customers across multiple industries.
